Health and Excellence: ASSN-UEW Congratulates UEW Hospital on Impressive B+ Maiden Regional Review

The Association of Students with Special Needs (ASSN-UEW) at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), extends its warmest commendations to the management, medical professionals, and entire staff of the UEW Hospital for achieving a brilliant score of 75.1% (equivalent to a B+) in its maiden regional peer review assessment.
Conducted on Thursday, 27th August, 2026, by a specialized assessment team from the Central Regional Health Directorate of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), this rigorous evaluation formed part of standard hospital-to-hospital peer review systems designed to measure healthcare delivery against high regional standards.
A Stellar Milestone for a Young Facility
For a health facility that has been operational for only about a year and a half, securing a B+ ranking—placing it firmly within the second-highest category of performance classification—is a phenomenal achievement. The comprehensive assessment rigorously reviewed nine key operational modules, including environment and infrastructure, infection prevention and control, clinical practice, client care, occupational health and safety, governance, and emergency services.
Commenting on the milestone, the Director of the University Health Services Directorate (UHSD), Dr. John Kanyiri Yamba, noted that the review provides a vital external benchmark for objectively measuring the hospital's performance and celebrating the dedication of unit heads and medical staff on their first attempt.
Similarly, Rev. Prosper Eric Ocran, the Regional Estate Manager of the Central Regional Health Directorate and member of the assessment team, lauded UEW management for participating in the review, highlighting that the strong score reflects the facility's promising standards of care.
Embracing Growth and Inclusive Health Services
As an association advocating for the welfare of students with diverse physical, sensory, and medical needs, ASSN-UEW recognizes that accessible, high-quality healthcare is an indispensable pillar of a thriving student body. We also note the constructive recommendations provided by the review team—particularly regarding the enhancement of emergency services and referral protocols—as a proactive roadmap for continuous institutional growth.
We express our profound gratitude to the medical team and university leadership for their relentless commitment to keeping the campus community healthy and safe. We look forward to seeing the UEW Hospital build upon this solid baseline, scaling even greater heights in patient-centered care, inclusivity, and medical excellence!
