Code Without Barriers: ASSN-UEW Calls for Resource Center Computers to Power Special Needs Participation in One Million Coders Programme

The Association of Students with Special Needs (ASSN-UEW) at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), extends its warm appreciation to university management following the recent delivery of 200 laptops under the government’s landmark One Million Coders Programme.
This brilliant initiative is a major milestone for our institution, opening up incredible avenues for digital literacy, software training, and technological innovation across campus. In today’s fast-paced digital economy, acquiring coding skills is an essential gateway to future employment, innovation, and self-reliance.
Request for Inclusion: Equipping the Resource Center for Coding
As an association, we firmly believe that digital empowerment belongs to every student, without exception. To ensure that this vision becomes a reality, ASSN-UEW is respectfully requesting that a dedicated portion of these digital resources be allocated to equip our campus Special Needs Resource Center.
For students with visual impairments, physical disabilities, and other special learning needs, standard computers require specialized adaptations—such as screen readers, accessible keyboards, and specialized coding software. By equipping the Resource Center with these accessible machines, our members will be fully empowered to take direct part in the One Million Coders Programme, attend coding sessions side by side with their peers, and build transformative digital solutions.
Embracing the Future Together
Disability is never an inability, and given the right tools and an accessible environment, students with special needs are fully ready to learn how to code, build applications, and contribute meaningfully to Ghana's digital space.
We congratulate the university leadership on securing this wonderful batch of laptops, and we look forward to a favorable and inclusive arrangement that brings the One Million Coders Programme directly into our Resource Center. Let us code together, break boundaries, and leave no student behind!
