A One-Day Seminar: Beyond the Audiogram: Understanding Speech Perception and Real-World Listening in Children

The University of Education, Winneba Centre for Hearing and Speech Services, in collaboration with the Department of Special Education, invites the university community, students, educators, researchers and professionals in hearing and speech services to a one-day seminar on the theme “Beyond the Audiogram: Understanding Speech Perception and Real-World Listening in Children.”
The seminar will explore the importance of understanding how children perceive speech and listen in everyday environments beyond what is revealed by standard hearing assessments. It will provide an opportunity to discuss the relationship between hearing ability, speech perception and children's listening experiences in real-life situations.
The programme will feature distinguished professionals including Prof. Josée Lagacé from the University of Ottawa, Canada, as the keynote speaker. Prof. Patricia Mawusi Amos will attend as the special guest. The event will also feature Dr. Emmanuel K. Acheampong, Head of the Department of Special Education, with Dr. Sesi Collins Akotey, Lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba and Coordinator of the Centre for Hearing and Speech Services, serving as host and coordinator.
The seminar will take place at the Right to Play Conference Room, School of Business, University of Education, Winneba.
This event offers an important opportunity to deepen understanding of children's speech perception and real-world listening needs while encouraging professional dialogue on hearing and speech services and the support children need to communicate and participate effectively in everyday life.
